About Blue Dirt Farm
About Blue Dirt Farm
Blue Earth, MN - Scott Haase of Blue Dirt Farm raises his Mangalitsa Berkshire pigs on pasture and woodland using regenerative farming practices. Regenerative farming encourages perennial-based agriculture that improves soil health and strengthens biodiversity with better results for farmers and the environment. Stronger land leads to stronger, healthier animals, and the end result is exquisitely marbled pastured heritage pork.
Blue Dirt Farm feeds Certified Organic, herbicide-free, and pesticide-free feed to its Mangalitsa Berkshire pigs, finishes with soy-free feed, and never uses antibiotics, steroids, or hormones while raising animals in harmony with nature. The animals spend their lives on pasture and woodland, giving them plenty of time to root around and add to their varied diet.
Mangalitsa pigs are a slower growing breed, which gives them time to develop the exquisite marbling and taste that makes Mangalitsa the “Kobe beef of pork.” Scott sometimes calls them “little wooly mammoths” for their adaptability to the cold winters of southern Minnesota.

Are you wondering if pasture raised really makes a difference? Is it worth the money? I can tell you that it 100% is! The flavor is just richer. The texture is better. The leftovers are juicier. All around worth it. Beyond that, I got such a nice note from Scott at Blue Dirt and fantastic customer service from The Meatery staff. This was my first time ordering with them and I wouldn't hesitate to order any of the other delicious-looking products on their site! Thanksgiving win!
Often times a pasture raised turkey can be unpredictable so when my Butterball-raised family reluctantly agreed to my desire for a healthier option, I was worried....well, I did not need to be. The turkey was absolutely delicious!
