The Meatery Kitchen
Ingredients
-
8 slices bacon
-
10 ounces sliced turkey breast
-
8 slices cheddar cheese
-
½ onion, sliced thin
-
½ apple, sliced thin
-
1 large ciabatta loaf, sliced in half lengthwise
-
3 tbsp butter
-
1 tbsp balsamic vinegar
-
1 tbsp olive oil
-
1 tbsp maple syrup (or substitute 1 tsp brown sugar)
Directions
Preheat oven to 400 degrees F.
Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or aluminum foil. Place bacon flat and spread evenly on baking sheet and bake for about 10 minutes, or until crisp.
Melt butter in skillet over medium-low heat. Add sliced onion and apple, and sauté for 5 minutes. Add balsamic vinegar and maple syrup and sauté for 5 more minutes.
Place ciabatta halves on a baking sheet lined with fresh parchment or foil with the inside or sliced portions facing up. Brush each half with olive oil. Spread apples and onions on bottom half of sliced ciabatta. Add sliced turkey, then sliced bacon. Place 4 slices of cheese over the bacon and the remaining slices of cheese over the other ciabatta half. Bake for about 10 minutes, or until cheese is melted.
Assemble the sandwich by placing the top half of the bread on top of the bottom half with all the ingredients. Slice, serve, and enjoy!
Recipe Note
- Try it with your favorite cheese: This recipe calls for cheddar but you can use your favorite melty cheese. Try it with a sweet and creamy smoked gouda!
- Use your preferred hot sandwich bread: We love ciabatta for hot sandwiches, but you can replace the ciabatta loaf in this recipe with French, sourdough, or your favorite bread for hot sandwiches.
